STANDARD WATER HEATERS

Although today there are more efficient ways to produce hot water that comes out of your showerhead and faucets, we here At Triple Crown offer standard water heater installations. When we install a water heater, we follow a checklist that ensures You get the most thorough, complete and safe result. We often find that most companies don't even do half of these things.

  1. Remove flue piping from top of heater to chimney base to check for blockages.
  2. Replace and upgrade the flue piping to the minimum size of 4" (many installers use 3").
  3. Cut out old service valves and install two new ball valves (USA) on the hot & cold piping.
This ensures easy servicing and avoids having to shut the entire building's water supply off, which often
Leads to rust, sediment, and scale entering your faucets and causing them to leak.
  4. Replace gas cock with new quarter-turn type
  5. Assure that gas piping size is adequate.
  6. Remove old water heater from your property..we don't leave the water heater for YOU to put out to the curb On "pick-up" day or lying at your curb.
  7. We screw flue pipe together at all seams. We come across many recently-installed water heaters That have their flue piping pulling apart, ready to spew carbon monoxide in to the living space!
  8. We make certain that the flue pipe is pitched upward toward the chimney for proper disposal of the Flue product. We also often find that many times the last installer took a short cut and simply "sticks" the flue pipe in to the wall and cements it over with no regard to whether the flue gas can reach the Chimney breech. Sometimes it is necessary to chop out a higher hole.
  9. We also check for proper draft with a draft guage (not a match test)
  10. We check the unit for carbon monoxide levels and spillage.

A leaking water heater can do considerable damage to your home. We offer an upgrade to set the water heater in an Overflow pan and pipe in a Taco "WAGS" (water and gas shutoff) valve that automatically shuts off the water and gas when water begins to fill the pan. A customer who has been through a flood caused by a water heater often goes for this upgrade.

Triple Crown also installs oil-fired water heaters.

INDIRECT WATER HEATERS

I like to describe an Indirect water heater as a large, very well-insulated Thermos® that stores hot water. It does NOT have its own burner, but is supplied with heated water from the adjacent boiler. It is piped out just like a zone of heat. Indirect water heaters are much more efficient than standard water heaters. The only thing that some people see as a downside is the fact that their boiler will need to run in the summer when the tank requires replenishment. The upside of this is the fact that many damp, musty basements stay dry during the summer. All of our indirect water heaters are installed with service valves on the hot & cold AND most importantly!!!! And Anti-scald Mixing valve to protect you and your family from any spikes of scalding water reaching your bathtub spout or lavatory sink. We always take the added time & expense to install an inline thermometer so that we can calibrate the valve set a safe temperature.
