TANKLESS WATER HEATERS

Tankless Water Heaters – People often refer to these as “instant-hot water heaters”. While the technology is similar, the design, performance, and durability of a tankless water heater versus the “insta-hot” units that mount under your kitchen sink are vast. Tankless water heaters mount on the wall and vent their exhaust directly to the outside air. They are considered a sealed-combustion unit meaning that they do NOT use indoor air for the combustion process. This is a great advance toward the industry-wide-move toward improving IAQ (indoor air quaility). So, what does this mean to you? A safer way to generate your home or business’ hot water needs. Standard water heaters which vent their flue product in to old, existing chimneys usually have NO safety switches or devices to shut down the equipment if the chimney becomes blocked with animals, old clay tile or bricks. When this “blocked vent” condition occurs, standard, atmospheric water heaters have no way of detecting this and will simply follow the path of least resistence, and, thus “spill” carbon monoxide-laden flue product directly in to your living space. The Rinnai is a “smart” machine and will “lock-out” the burner if the exhaust vent is blocked. The Rinnai tankless water heater takes up much less space in your boiler room and will free-up valuable floor space. Before we began installing this brand several years ago, we watched, and waited to see how they performed, what kind of “bugs” they had to work out, and how they would peform vis-à-vis their competitors. Rinnai, has been around much longer than other company’s units, have the least difficulties, the best warranties and have been extremely reliable. Prospective clients often ask us if the products we install are reliable or have had problems. Our business is fraught with many day-to-day “headaches.” We don’t need to add any more on the pile! The products we install, whether the Buderus Heating systems, Burnham Steam boilers, or Rinnai Tankless Water heaters, are as reliable as they come. Any product – even excellent ones – can have an issue from time-to-time, but it is how the manufacturer handles it and stands behind these products that seperates them from their competitors. The same can be said for Triple Crown and the way in which we handle problems that can arise.

The best analogy that we can give about the difference between the Rinnai and a standard water heater is this:  A standard water heater maintains a constant temperature 24/7, 365 days a year…when you sleep, the water heater comes on to reheat the water in the tank.  When you go to work and no one is in the home, the water heater is hard at work…even though no one will open a faucet or shower until after 7 PM.  This is tantamount to having a car idling in the driveway ALL THE TIME….Just in case one needs to run an errand for some milk.  Not a very energy-efficient way to make hot water, is it?  The Rinnai burns gas ONLY when a hot water faucet is opened and shuts down within a few seconds of the faucet closing – that’s it….OFF!  Savings really does vary from building to building, but you will save anywhere from 50-80% on your water heating portion of your gas bill.  We even had one customer who was unable to enter his gas meter readings electronically (via computer) three months in a row due to the drastic drop in his bill.  The gas utility finally sent someone to see why and when the serviceman saw the Rinnai on the wall: “ahhhhh! There you go..”  he said.  Mike R. was quite pleased with his investment.

Unfamiliar people, both in and out of our industry, have “bad-mouthed” tankless heaters claiming they “can’t keep up…run out of hot water, et cetera.”  When one asks the right questions and digs a little deeper the truth comes out:  “well, I’ve never actually installed one, but I heard…..yeah, the house did have 5 bathrooms and a cabana with a hot tub…you think that was the problem, Matt?”   Any water heater MUST be properly-sized to meet the hot water demands of THAT building.  Every situation is different as inhabitants of any given home have very different habits of usage.   Adults are often satisfied with 10-15 minute shower when teenagers can run the hot water for 30-45 minutes.  Sizing the right model for your situation involves a thorough accounting of the inhabitants usage, expectations AND number and type of hot water outlets in home.  Both gas and water piping must be adequate as well and sometimes needs to be upgraded to provide the Rinnai unit with the proper volume of fuel and water.  A given sized pipe is capable of passing only so much volume at a given pressure.   Rinnai makes several different-sized models to meet any usage load….Determining which size you need is our job.  Leave the worrying to us.

Many Rinnai customers feel good about their investment not only financially but environmentally. Keeping YOUR money in your pocket and reducing our Country's fuel consumption is a win-win situation

IN REVIEW: THE RINNAI TANKLESS WATER HEATER WILL

1) Save you $$$ on water heating costs
2) Free-up valuable floor space
3) Be safer to operate
4) Give you a feeling of "doing your part" for the Earth's Environment

Anyone can mount a tankless heater on the wall and connect the piping. But if you see the picture below with the cover off…it is easy to see

That the unit is nothing but wires, complex circuit boards, and intricate piping and sensors. We actually had a Phd in Rocket Propulsion who was visiting at the home of his sister comment that today's tankless heaters and wall hung, Mod Con boilers (Buderus GB-142) have more technology in them than the Apollo Mission! I don't doubt it! Quite a few plumbers and hvac companies are beginning to install tankless heaters but are not able, capable, or certified to service and repair them. At Triple Crown we are Factory-Certified and trained By Rinnai. What that means to you, is that when your unit needs service or goes down, we will be able to get you back on line quickly.
